शिव ने शंखचूड़ को अपने त्रिशुल से भस्म कर दिया और उसकी हड्डियों से शंख का जन्म हुआ. चूंकि शंखचूड़ विष्णु भक्त था अत: लक्ष्मी-विष्णु को शंख का जल अति प्रिय है और सभी देवताओं को शंख से जल चढ़ाने का विधान है. परंतु शिव ने चूंकि उसका वध किया था अत: शंख का जल शिव को निषेध बताया गया है. इसी वजह से शिवजी को शंख से जल नहीं चढ़ाया जाता है. <br /> <br />Shiva consumed the conch shell with his trident and the conch shell was born from his bones. Since Shankhchud was a devotee of Vishnu, therefore Lakshmi-Vishnu is very fond of conch water and there is a law to offer water to all the deities from the conch. But since Shiva had killed him, therefore the water of the conch is said to be a prohibition to Shiva.
